Ingredients

The doughnut batter

  • 2 1/4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange
  • 1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • ¼ cup melted butter or vegetable oil

For frying

  • as needed none oil

Instructions

  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Stir in milk, eggs, vanilla, and oil until smooth.
  3. Heat oil in a large saucepan to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Scoop batter and drop it into the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding.
  5. Fry until golden brown on one side, then flip and fry the other side.
  6. Remove from oil and drain on napkins.
  7. Optionally, roll in sugar or sprinkle with powdered sugar.
