Ingredients

The dough

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

For frying and rolling

  • oil for deep-frying
  • ¼ cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in a large bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and melted butter, then mix into the dry ingredients.
  3. Heat oil in a pot or deep skillet to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Using a small round ice cream scoop, drop the dough into the hot oil, frying five or six at a time until browned, about 1-2 minutes, turning once.
  5. Drain the fried donut holes on paper towels and roll them in sugar before serving.
