Ingredients

The donut holes

  • 2 cups white whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ¼ cup Greek yogurt
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

The glaze

  • cups confectioners’ sugar
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare a mini muffin pan.
  2. Sift together the flour, sugar, and cocoa powder in a large bowl, then mix in the baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, yogurt, and vanilla until smooth, then mix in the melted butter.
  4. Fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.
  5. Spoon the batter into the mini muffin tins, filling them about ¾ full, and bake for 10 minutes.
  6. Allow the donut holes to cool slightly before glazing.
  7. Prepare the glaze by sifting the confectioners' sugar and mixing it with cream, vanilla, and lemon juice until smooth.
  8. Dunk each warm donut hole into the glaze multiple times for a thicker coating.
