Ingredients

The donut dough

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 3 Tbsp melted butter
  • 3 - 4 cups vegetable oil (for frying)

For coating

  • cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Heat about ½ inch of oil in a large pan over medium heat to 355°F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, ¼ cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk and melted butter.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just mixed.
  5. Roll the dough into ½ tablespoon-sized balls.
  6. Fry the dough balls in batches until golden brown on both sides.
  7. Remove the donuts and let them drain on paper towels.
  8. Roll the warm donuts in sugar to coat.
