Ingredients

The donuts

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 large egg (at room temperature)
  • cup packed light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ cup yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • teaspoons pure vanilla extract

The topping

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and spray a donut pan with non-stick spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the egg, brown sugar, milk, and yogurt until smooth, then add melted butter and vanilla.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined without overmixing.
  5. Spoon the batter into the donut cavities using a zipped-top bag for easier piping.
  6. Bake for 9-10 minutes until lightly browned, then cool for about two minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  7. For the topping, mix the sugar and cinnamon in one bowl and melt the butter in another.
  8. Dip the warm donuts in melted butter and then dunk in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat.
