Beef Fried Rice

Ingredients

The beef

  • ¾ pound flank steak
  • ½ teaspoon granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons corn starch

The fried rice

  • 4 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • ½ cup onion
  • ½ cup carrots
  • ½ cup peas
  • 2 teaspoons garlic
  • 2 eggs lightly beaten
  • 3 cups cooked white rice
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • ¼ cup green onions

Instructions

  1. Make a marinade with steak, sugar, sesame oil, soy sauce, and corn starch; refrigerate for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a pan, add steak, and cook until golden brown; remove and keep warm.
  3. Add remaining oil, then cook onions and carrots until soft.
  4. Add garlic and season with salt and pepper, then remove and keep warm.
  5. Scramble the eggs in the pan, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  6. Add rice, steak, vegetables, peas, soy sauce, and sesame oil to the pan; mix until combined and warmed through.
  7. Top with green onions and serve immediately.
