Ingredients

The scones

  • 2 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup salted butter, cubed
  • cup cold heavy whipping cream or buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • cup mashed very ripe bananas
  • 1 to 1 ½ cups chocolate chips or chocolate chunks

The glaze

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sour cream or buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon warm water
  • a dash vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the butter until crumbly, or grate it into the flour mixture.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream, mashed bananas, and vanilla extract.
  5. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until large clumps form.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips or chunks.
  7. Knead the dough gently until it holds together, then shape it into a rectangle.
  8. Cut the dough into 12 wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let cool, then whisk together glaze ingredients and drizzle over the scones.
