Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
- Shred the frozen butter and mix it into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles pea-sized crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, mix the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract until well blended.
- Combine the wet ingredients and chocolate chips with the dry mixture to form the dough, being careful not to overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into an 8-inch disc.
- Cut the disc into 8 wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops of the scones with heavy cream and sprinkle with sugar if desired.
- Refrigerate the scones for 30-60 minutes before baking.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown, then cool on a wire rack.
