Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg

Butter and Chocolate

  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter, frozen and shredded
  • cups mini chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream (for brushing)
  • 2 tablespoons raw or coarse sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Shred the frozen butter and mix it into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles pea-sized crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract until well blended.
  5. Combine the wet ingredients and chocolate chips with the dry mixture to form the dough, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into an 8-inch disc.
  7. Cut the disc into 8 wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Brush the tops of the scones with heavy cream and sprinkle with sugar if desired.
  9. Refrigerate the scones for 30-60 minutes before baking.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown, then cool on a wire rack.
