Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Sift together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
- In another bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy, then add granulated and brown sugars and mix until well combined.
- Add the eggs and egg yolks one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients alternating with buttermilk, mixing until just combined.
- Set aside 1 cup of the yellow batter and mix in melted chocolate until combined.
- Pour yellow batter into the pans, add chocolate batter on top, and swirl with a knife.
- Bake for 22-27 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans before transferring to a wire rack.
- For the frosting, beat the butter until smooth, then add confectioners’ sugar, cocoa powder, salt, vanilla, and cream, mixing until creamy.
- Level the cooled cakes if necessary, then frost between layers and on top and sides of the cake.
- Decorate as desired and serve.
