Ingredients

The meatballs

  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 slice white sandwich bread
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • ¼ teaspoon dried oregano, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

The sauce and pasta

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 14.5 ounce can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • fresh parsley, minced for garnish

Instructions

  1. Mash together egg, cream, and bread until smooth.
  2. Mix in beef, onion, parsley, oregano, salt, and pepper, then roll into 1-inch meatballs.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil and brown the meatballs on all sides.
  4. In a saucepan, heat olive oil, add garlic, and cook until fragrant.
  5. Add crushed and diced tomatoes, basil, oregano, and sugar; bring to a boil.
  6. Add meatballs to the sauce, reduce heat, and simmer until cooked through.
  7. Cook spaghetti in salted boiling water until al dente, then drain.
  8. Serve spaghetti topped with sauce and meatballs, garnished with Parmesan.
