Ingredients

The doughnuts

  • ½ cup oat flour
  • ½ cup sweet rice flour
  • ½ cup pure cane sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons almond meal
  • 2 tablespoons coconut flour
  • 2 tablespoons ground flax meal
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup unsweetened almond milk
  • ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 3 tablespoons oil (grapeseed recommended)
  • ½ cup vegan dark chocolate chips

The chocolate frosting

  • 2-3 tablespoons unsweetened almond milk
  • cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons vegan butter
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • to taste vegan sprinkles (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a doughnut pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients for the doughnuts and stir until mixed.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients until fully combined.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; let the batter sit for 5 minutes without stirring.
  5. Spoon the batter into the doughnut molds, filling just below the top.
  6. Bake for 18-23 minutes, checking with a toothpick for doneness.
  7. Let the doughnuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
  8. For the frosting, beat the frosting ingredients together until smooth, adjusting milk or sugar as needed.
  9. Spread the frosting onto cooled doughnuts and garnish with sprinkles if desired.
