Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, spices, salt, and pepper.
- In another bowl, mix the molasses and hot water.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar, then add the egg and vanilla.
- Combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients in three additions, alternating with the molasses mixture.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 50-60 minutes, checking for doneness.
- Allow the loaf to cool completely before drizzling with orange icing.
