Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease the chosen cake pan.
- Whisk together the flour, baking soda, spices, and salt in a bowl.
- In another bowl, mix the molasses with hot water.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until smooth, then add the egg and vanilla.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients and the molasses mixture, alternating between the two.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 35 minutes.
- Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
- For the frosting, beat the cream cheese and butter until creamy, then add the sugar, vanilla, milk, and spices.
- Spread the frosting on the cooled cake and serve.
