Ingredients

The scones

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • ½ cup unsalted cold butter
  • ¾ cup half and half
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries

Topping

  • 2 tablespoons half and half
  • to taste turbinado sugar

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 425°F and prepare a baking sheet.
  2. 2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. 3. In a separate bowl, combine sugar and orange zest, then mix into the flour mixture.
  4. 4. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles pea-sized chunks.
  5. 5. In a measuring cup, whisk together half and half, eggs, and vanilla, then add to the dry ingredients and mix until moist.
  6. 6. Gently fold in cranberries, knead the dough on a floured surface until it comes together.
  7. 7. Shape the dough into a circle, roll out, cut into wedges, and place on the baking sheet.
  8. 8. Brush with half and half and sprinkle with turbinado sugar before baking.
