Ingredients

The scone mixture

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon table salt
  • 1 zest orange
  • ½ cup dried cranberries
  • 8 tablespoons butter
  • ½ cup full-fat sour cream
  • 1 large egg

Topping

  • to taste sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and prepare a baking sheet with parchment or a Silpat.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add orange zest and cranberries, then whisk together.
  4. Grate the frozen butter and mix it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse meal.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together sour cream and egg, then drizzle over the flour mixture and combine with a fork.
  6. Form the dough into a ball, being careful not to overwork it.
  7. Flour a surface and press the dough into an 8-inch disc, cutting it into wedges.
  8. Place the wedges on the baking sheet and sprinkle with sugar.
  9. Bake for 15-17 minutes until lightly golden, then cool.
