Ingredients

The pasta

  • 2 cups dry wheat macaroni or other small-ish pasta

The sauce

  • 2 cups skim milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 dash nutmeg
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons seasoned bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons seasoned bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Rinse the dry pasta in a colander and let it drain.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the uncooked pasta, milk, salt, mustard powder, and nutmeg, then bring to a simmer over medium heat while stirring frequently.
  3. Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and cook for 15 minutes, stirring often until the milk is absorbed and the pasta is cooked.
  4. Add the grated cheese to the pasta and stir until melted, then cover the saucepan and let it sit for about 5 minutes.
  5. Toast the bread crumbs in a dry skillet over medium heat until browned, stirring occasionally.
  6. Serve the macaroni and cheese in bowls and sprinkle with toasted bread crumbs.
