Homemade BBQ Sauce

soy sauce or Braggs Liquid Amino Acid

molasses or maple syrup

coconut sugar

optional additions (chipotle powder, cayenne, adobo sauce, liquid smoke)
Instructions
- Chop shallots and garlic finely or mince in a food processor.
- Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat, add shallots and garlic, and sauté for 3-4 minutes.
- Lower heat to medium-low and cook until shallots and garlic are golden and fragrant, about 5 more minutes.
- Add thyme, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and tomato paste, and sauté for 1 minute.
- Stir in broth, vinegar, soy sauce, molasses, brown sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer uncovered for about 10 minutes until slightly thickened, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust salt, vinegar, and sweetness as needed.
- For heat, add chipotle powder or adobo sauce to taste.
- Optionally, add liquid smoke for extra smokiness.
- Store in a sealed jar in the fridge.
