Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • teaspoons table salt
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • to taste cornmeal

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, and yeast in a mixing bowl.
  2. Grease an 8.5x4.5 inch bread pan and sprinkle with cornmeal.
  3. Heat the milk, water, and olive oil in a saucepan to about 110-115 degrees F.
  4. Add the warm liquid mixture to the flour mixture and beat on high for 1 minute.
  5. Spread the sticky dough into the prepared pan and cover it.
  6. Let the dough rise in a warm area for 45-60 minutes until it rises about 1/4 inch above the pan.
  7. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F while the dough is rising.
  8. Bake the bread for 22-26 minutes until golden and sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Cool the bread in the pan for 5 minutes, then turn it out onto a cooling rack to cool completely.
  10. Slice the bread into 1/2 inch slices when ready to serve.
