Homemade Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 4 cups whole milk or milk of choice
  • ¼ cup cane sugar
  • 1 whole cinnamon stick
  • ½ whole vanilla bean, scraped (or 2 teaspoons vanilla extract)
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • ounces semi-sweet chocolate
  • a pinch kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Chop the chocolate into small pieces.
  2. Combine the cocoa powder, chopped chocolate, sugar, vanilla bean caviar (or extract), cinnamon stick, and a pinch of salt in a medium saucepan.
  3. Warm the mixture over medium-low heat until the chocolate has melted, stirring regularly.
  4. Remove the cinnamon stick and vanilla bean before serving.
  5. Divide the hot chocolate among mugs and garnish as desired.
