Ingredients

  • 6 cups 2% milk or non-dairy milk
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon espresso powder or instant coffee (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients except the vanilla in a medium saucepan.
  2. Heat over medium, whisking frequently, until the chocolate melts and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Do not let the mixture boil and whisk often.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.
  5. Taste and add additional sugar if desired.
  6. Serve immediately or transfer to a slow cooker to keep warm.
