Ingredients

The mushrooms

  • 4 large portobello mushrooms
  • to drizzle none extra-virgin olive oil
  • to drizzle none balsamic vinegar
  • to drizzle none tamari
  • to taste none sea salt
  • to taste none freshly ground black pepper

For serving

  • 4 none hamburger buns
  • as desired none lettuce
  • as desired none sliced tomato
  • as desired none sliced red onion
  • as desired none pickles
  • as desired none ketchup
  • as desired none mayo
  • as desired none mustard
  • as desired none pesto
  • as desired none guacamole
  • as desired none chipotle sauce

Instructions

  1. Clean the mushrooms by removing the stems and wiping the caps with a damp cloth.
  2. Drizzle the mushrooms with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and tamari, then sprinkle with salt and pepper, rubbing the seasonings into the mushrooms.
  3. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat.
  4. Place the mushrooms, gill side up, on the grill and cook for 5 to 7 minutes per side until tender.
  5. Assemble the burgers on the warmed or toasted buns with your desired toppings.
