Homemade Sushi

Ingredients

The sushi

  • 3 cups brown rice (short grain)
  • 4 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • ½ pound shrimp (raw or cooked)
  • ½ pound tuna (raw, sushi-grade or salmon)
  • 2 units carrots (peeled)
  • 1 unit cucumber (peeled)
  • 1 unit avocado
  • 1 package nori (seaweed sheets)

Optional add-ons

  • to taste toasted sesame seeds
  • to taste wasabi
  • to taste pickled ginger

Instructions

  1. Cook the brown rice according to package directions.
  2. Skewer the shrimp to keep them straight, then boil for 3-5 minutes until firm.
  3. Chop the cooked shrimp, raw fish, carrots, and cucumber into julienned strips.
  4. Stir rice wine vinegar into the cooked rice once done.
  5. Cut nori sheets in half and cover bamboo mats with plastic wrap.
  6. Lay a half sheet of nori on the mat and cover with a thin layer of rice.
  7. Add a row of your chosen ingredients at the bottom edge of the nori.
  8. Roll the nori tightly using the bamboo mat, then cut into pieces.
