Ingredients

The base

  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ¼ to ½ cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise

The herbs and flavorings

  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh cilantro or dill
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh chives
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon fine salt
  • to taste freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine sour cream, ¼ cup buttermilk, mayonnaise, fresh herbs, garlic, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, salt, and black pepper in a bowl and whisk together.
  2. Taste the mixture and add more buttermilk for a thinner consistency or more lemon juice for extra tang as desired.
  3. Let the dressing rest for 10 minutes for improved flavor before using.
  4. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for 5 to 7 days.
