Bourbon-Soaked Cherries

bourbon (or any favorite whiskey)
Instructions
- Place the pitted cherries in two clean pint-sized mason jars or one large quart-sized mason jar.
- In a medium saucepan, combine water, honey, vanilla extract, and stir until combined.
- Add the cinnamon stick and orange peel, then heat the mixture until it reaches a simmer.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes to meld the flavors.
- Remove from heat, strain out the cinnamon stick and orange peel, and slowly stir in the bourbon.
- Pour the bourbon mixture over the cherries, let it cool to room temperature, then secure the lids on the jars.
- Refrigerate for at least 3 days before using. The cherries can last for 2-3 months in the fridge.
