Ingredients

Vanilla Pudding

  • 2 ½ tablespoons cornstarch
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • a pinch salt
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

Banana Pudding Layering

  • 1 package vanilla wafers
  • 4-5 large ripe firm bananas
  • 1 cup homemade whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Combine cornstarch, sugar, and salt in a saucepan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together milk, heavy cream, and egg yolks.
  3. Gently whisk the wet ingredients into the saucepan until smooth.
  4. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until bubbling and thickened, about 7-10 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla, and let cool.
  6. In a trifle bowl, layer vanilla wafers, banana slices, pudding, and whipped cream repeatedly.
  7. Top with crushed vanilla wafers and banana slices, then refrigerate until ready to serve.
