Easy French Onion Soup

Instructions
- Heat butter in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat and add sliced onions, cooking for 15 minutes while stirring occasionally.
- Add minced garlic, salt, pepper, bay leaves, and thyme, then cook for another 20-30 minutes until onions are caramelized.
- Add red wine and let it reduce for about 5 minutes before stirring in the flour.
- Incorporate the flour, then add beef broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to broil.
- Serve soup in bowls, topping each with 2 slices of baguette and ¼ cup of gruyere cheese, then broil until bubbly and golden.
