Ingredients

The Dough

  • 8 tablespoons butter
  • cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup

  • 3 cups whole-wheat pastry flour

The Filling

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • cup pecans (crushed)
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons cinnamon

The Frosting

  • ½ cup cream cheese (softened)
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons butter (softened)

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter for the dough in a small saucepan, then stir in the milk, maple syrup, and yeast, and set aside.
  2. In a stand mixer, combine flour and salt, then add eggs and the butter mixture, mixing until a dough forms. Add more flour if too sticky.
  3. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for at least 30 minutes.
  4. For the filling, melt the butter and mix in the pecans, maple syrup, and cinnamon.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread the filling evenly, and roll it up tightly.
  6. Cut the rolled dough into pieces and place them cut-side up in a greased baking dish. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F and bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Mix the frosting ingredients until smooth and pour over the warm rolls before serving.
