Ingredients

The filling

  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 2 stalks celery, diced
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 pounds ground beef

The sauce

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 15-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a skillet or slow cooker with a sauté function.
  2. Add the onion and celery, cooking for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook until no longer pink, about 10 minutes.
  4. Transfer the meat and vegetables to the slow cooker if using a skillet.
  5. Stir in the ketchup, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, mustard, sugar, chili powder, and salt.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours.
  7. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed before serving with buns.
