Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with aluminum foil, greasing it lightly.
- In a medium bowl, combine cherries, sugar, cornstarch, and almond extract, and let it sit.
- In a separate bowl, cream together butter, sugar, milk, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until fluffy.
- Add the egg and egg yolk, mixing until well combined.
- Gradually add flour and mix until just combined.
- Press ⅔ of the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Pour the cherry filling over the crust and drop pieces of the remaining dough on top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until the filling is bubbling and the edges are golden.
- Let the bars cool completely.
- For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, lemon zest, and milk until smooth, then drizzle over the cooled bars.
- Serve at room temperature or slightly warm, optionally with ice cream.
