Ingredients

The cookies

  • 2⅓ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

The maple icing

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • a pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl and set aside.
  2. Cream the butter and brown sugar together until smooth, then add the egg and mix until combined.
  3. Add the maple syrup, vanilla extract, and maple extract, and mix until well combined.
  4. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients and mix until combined, then fold in the pecans.
  5. Cover and chill the dough for 2 hours in the refrigerator.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare baking sheets.
  7. Roll the chilled dough into balls and place on the baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 12-13 minutes until lightly browned on the sides.
  9. Prepare the icing by melting butter and maple syrup, then whisk in the confectioners’ sugar and salt.
  10. Drizzle the icing over the cooled cookies and allow to set.
