Ingredients

The cupcakes

  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 and ⅓ cups all-purpose flour

  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

The frosting

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • ¾ cup Nutella
  • cup heavy cream or whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • pinch salt
  • optional decorative candies

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare muffin pans with liners.
  2. Boil water and mix with cocoa powder until smooth, then cool.
  3. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, then add eggs and vanilla.
  5. Combine the flour mixture and cocoa mixture until smooth.
  6. Fill muffin tins and bake until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool cupcakes on a wire rack before frosting.
  8. Beat butter for frosting, then mix in sugar, Nutella, cream, and vanilla.
  9. Adjust frosting consistency with more sugar or cream as needed.
  10. Frost cooled cupcakes and decorate as desired.
