Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup diced pears
  • to taste Turbinado sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and prepare muffin pans with liners or cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flours, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine buttermilk, melted butter, honey, egg, and vanilla, then pour over the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Gently fold in the diced pears.
  5. Fill the muffin cups three-quarters full, sprinkle with turbinado sugar, and bake for 18-20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving warm.
