Ingredients

The beans

  • 1 cup dry pinto beans

The liquid and seasonings

  • cups water
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Soak the dry pinto beans in water for 8 to 12 hours, then drain and rinse them.
  2. Add the soaked beans to the Instant Pot with 2½ cups of fresh water and seasonings.
  3. Secure the lid, set the steam release valve to 'Sealing', and cook at high pressure for 15 minutes.
  4. Allow the pressure to naturally release for 10 minutes, then release any remaining pressure.
  5. Check the beans for tenderness and cook for an additional 5 minutes if necessary.
  6. For thicker liquid, use the Sauté function for about 10 minutes with the lid off.
