Ingredients

The base

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ unit yellow onion, diced
  • 1 cup carrots, finely diced
  • 1 cup celery, finely diced
  • 1 unit green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb ground beef

Seasonings and sauces

  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • cup ketchup
  • ½ cup water or broth

To serve

  • 1 slice cheddar cheese
  • to taste unit buns or potatoes/rice

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add diced onions, carrots, celery, and green pepper; cook until softened.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Add ground beef, breaking it up, and cook until browned.
  5. Mix in salt, chili powder, and onion powder until well combined.
  6. Add honey, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, tomato sauce, ketchup, and water; stir to combine.
  7. Let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes until thickened, adding more liquid if necessary.
  8. Serve ⅔ cup of the meat mixture on each bun topped with a slice of cheddar cheese.
