Ingredients

Chicken Seasoning

  • 1 whole chicken, cut into 10 pieces
  • 1½ - 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4-6 cloves garlic, crushed
  • ½ - 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon creole seasoning
  • 4 cups buttermilk

Air Fryer Chicken Coating

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 - 1½ tablespoons dried herbs (Thyme, Oregano, Parsley)
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken with salt, crushed garlic, hot sauce, and creole seasoning in buttermilk for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, herbs, and white pepper.
  3. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and dredge in the flour mixture, shaking off excess flour.
  4. Double dip the chicken in buttermilk again and then in the flour mixture, shaking off excess flour.
  5. Let the coated chicken rest for 10-15 minutes.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes.
  7. Set the air fryer to 375°F, grease the basket, and place the chicken in a single layer without overcrowding.
  8. Cook for about 15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and the outside is crispy and golden brown.
