Ingredients

The cake

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ cup neutral oil (such as grapeseed or avocado)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs (lightly beaten)
  • ½ cup + 2 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 recipe Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting

For decorating

  • 3 to 4 cups raspberries
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • to taste confectioners sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF and whisk together the dry ingredients.
  2. Add the wet ingredients and stir until combined.
  3. Prepare a 9×13-inch pan with nonstick spray and parchment paper, then pour in the batter.
  4. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean and cool the cake completely.
  5. Spread the frosting over the cooled cake and prepare the berries for decoration.
  6. Assemble the cake with blueberries and raspberries to create the flag design.
