Ingredients

The crust

  • 1 ½ cups whole-wheat flour

  • ½ cup butter (melted, preferably unsalted)
  • 2 tablespoons milk

The filling

  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon butter (melted)
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups pecans (chopped or whole)
  • ¾ cup chocolate chips (dark)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a pie pan, mix together the crust ingredients until well combined.
  3. Shape the crust to cover the pie dish evenly, making the edges look fancy if desired.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the filling ingredients.
  5. Fold in the pecans and chocolate chips into the filling mixture.
  6. Pour the filling into the prepared crust and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until set.
  7. Let cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving, preferably with vanilla ice cream.
