Ingredients

The steak

  • 2 pieces New York Strip Steaks

The marinade and rub

  • 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • ½ tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar or sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • 1 teaspoon melted butter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Drizzle the steaks with soy sauce and liquid smoke.
  2. Season the steaks with the spice mixture and rub it in.
  3. If desired, marinate the steaks in the fridge for 1 hour to overnight.
  4. Place the steaks in the air fryer without stacking them.
  5. Cook the steaks at 370°F for 5 minutes, then check for doneness.
  6. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature for desired doneness.
  7. Remove the steaks from the air fryer and drizzle with melted butter if using.
  8. Allow the steaks to rest for at least 3 minutes before slicing.
