Easy Healthy Teriyaki Sauce

Ingredients

The sauce

  • ½ cup low sodium soy sauce
  • cup pineapple juice
  • 3 Tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger or ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic or ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp sesame seeds (optional)

For thickening (optional)

  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 tsp cold water

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients except for sesame seeds in a small saucepan and whisk on medium heat.
  2. Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer for 5 to 6 minutes while whisking continuously until it thickens.
  3. If a thicker sauce is desired, mix cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry and add it to the sauce after removing from heat.
  4. Stir in sesame seeds and enjoy the sauce warm or let it cool before storing.
