Garlic Butter Prime Rib

Ingredients

The roast

  • 4-7 pound standing rib roast/prime rib
  • To Taste N/A kosher salt or sea salt

The garlic butter

  • ½ cup room temperature unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley
  • 6 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 3-6 sprigs fresh thyme
  • ½ cup sliced or diced onions (optional)

Seasonings

  • 1-2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1-2 teaspoons onion powder
  • To Taste N/A salt and pepper
  • 1-2 tablespoons Creole seasoning

Instructions

  1. Allow the prime rib to come to room temperature for 2-3 hours.
  2. Sprinkle salt on each side of the prime rib.
  3. Preheat the oven to 500 degrees.
  4. Combine the room temperature butter with garlic, parsley, and spices.
  5. Pat the prime rib dry and rub it with the seasoned herb butter.
  6. Place the prime rib bone-side down and fat cap-side up in a skillet or roasting pan.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes to form a crust.
  8. Adjust the oven temperature to 325 degrees and continue cooking until desired doneness.
  9. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature.
  10. Allow the prime rib to rest for 45-60 minutes before slicing.
