Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (176°C) and butter a 10-inch (25 cm) cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Hull the strawberries and cut them in half.
- In an electric mixer, beat the butter and 1 cup of sugar until pale and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
- Mix in the egg, milk, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in the flour mixture on low speed.
- Transfer the batter to the prepared cake pan and arrange the strawberries on top, cut sides down.
- Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of sugar over the strawberries.
- Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 325°F (150°C) and bake until golden brown and cooked through, about 1 hour.
- Let the cake cool, cut into wedges, and serve immediately.
