Ingredients

  • 1 cup textured vegetable protein
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
  • 6 tablespoons water
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 2 tablespoons chickpea flour
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground sage
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seed
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Blend rolled oats to make oat flour.
  2. Rehydrate the TVP by boiling water or vegetable broth and letting it rest with the TVP for 5 minutes.
  3. Prepare flax eggs by mixing ground flaxseed with water and letting it rest for 5 minutes.
  4. Combine all ingredients including the hydrated TVP, flax eggs, oat flour, and seasonings in a bowl and mix well.
  5. Refrigerate the mixture for at least 10 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  6. Heat a skillet with coconut oil over medium heat.
  7. Form the mixture into 8 patties about ¼ inch thick.
  8. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
