Ingredients

The Chicken

  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts or tenders
  • 1 tablespoon honey or pure maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
  • teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • cup thinly sliced green onions

The Orange Sauce

  • 1 medium orange (zest and juice)
  • cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • cup water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes

For Serving

  • as needed prepared brown rice
  • as needed sautéed veggies

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken with soy sauce, honey, and baking soda for 15 minutes.
  2. Prepare the orange sauce by whisking together orange zest, orange juice, honey, soy sauce, ginger, and garlic in a saucepan.
  3. Whisk together water and cornstarch to create a slurry, then stir it into the orange mixture and simmer until thickened.
  4. Coat the marinated chicken with cornstarch.
  5. Heat canola oil in a wok or large skillet and cook the chicken until golden brown on all sides.
  6. Reduce heat, add the orange sauce to the chicken, and stir to coat.
  7. Stir in green onions and serve hot with rice and sautéed veggies.
