Ingredients

The chicken

  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • ½ cup arrowroot starch
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

The orange sauce

  • ½ cup fresh squeezed orange juice (about 2 oranges)
  • 1 zest orange
  • ¼ cup coconut aminos
  • 1 tsp arrowroot starch
  • ½ tsp fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated

For topping

  • sesame seeds (optional)
  • red chili flakes (optional)
  • sliced green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix the sauce ingredients in a bowl or jar.
  2. Cut the chicken into cubes and set aside.
  3. Combine arrowroot starch, sea salt, and pepper on a plate.
  4. Coat the chicken pieces with the starch mixture.
  5. Heat sesame oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  6. Add the chicken and cook until browned and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes.
  7. Remove the chicken and set aside.
  8. Lower the heat and pour the orange juice sauce into the pan, deglazing it.
  9. Simmer the sauce for 2-3 minutes until thickened.
  10. Add the chicken back into the pan and toss to coat with the sauce.
  11. Simmer for another 2-3 minutes before serving with optional toppings.
