Ingredients

  • 2 cans black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 ½ tsp cumin
  • 1 ½ tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar or Colby jack cheese
  • 2 tbsp BBQ sauce
  • 2 large eggs
  • as needed tbsp olive oil, for cooking

Instructions

  1. Mash the black beans in a large mixing bowl until mostly broken up, leaving some whole for texture.
  2. Add the Panko breadcrumbs, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, cheese, eggs, and BBQ sauce to the mashed beans and stir until combined.
  3. Form the mixture into 6 tightly packed patties.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Cook the patties for about 6 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Serve the burgers on buns with desired toppings.
