Spaghetti Sauce Three Bean Chili

Ingredients

The base

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large sweet onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 pounds ground beef, lean

The beans

  • 15 ounces kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 15 ounces pinto beans
  • 15 ounces cannellini beans, drained and rinsed

The sauce

  • 24 ounces spaghetti sauce or crushed tomatoes

The seasonings

  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1 teaspoon granulated onion
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, optional
  • to taste cayenne pepper, optional

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or pot and sauté the chopped onions and minced garlic until the onions are lightly cooked.
  2. Add the ground beef and brown it, stirring continuously to break up the meat.
  3. Once the meat is browned, add the seasonings and mix well.
  4. Stir in the spaghetti sauce and all the beans, combining all ingredients thoroughly.
  5. Reduce the heat to a simmer and let the chili cook for 1 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  6. If the chili becomes too thick, add water to reach the desired consistency.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed, adding more chili powder or cayenne for heat, or brown sugar for sweetness.
