Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 lb homemade rough puff pastry or store-bought frozen puff pastry (2 sheets)

Filling

  • 2 cups peeled & diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup granulated or brown sugar

Egg Wash + Topping

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk (any kind)
  • ½ cup salted caramel (optional, for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the puff pastry dough and keep it refrigerated.
  2. In a saucepan, cook the apples with cornstarch, vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar for about 10 minutes, then cool for 20 minutes.
  3. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  4. Roll out the dough and cut it into squares, placing them on the baking sheets.
  5. Add the apple filling to the center of each square, fold into triangles, and crimp the edges to seal.
  6. Chill the shaped turnovers for at least 15 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C), brush the turnovers with egg wash, and cut vents in the tops.
  8. Bake for 23–25 minutes until golden brown and cool for 5 minutes before drizzling with caramel sauce.
