Ingredients

The donuts

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • teaspoon ground ginger
  • teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • a pinch ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • cup pumpkin puree
  • cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

The cinnamon sugar topping

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease the donut pan.
  2. Whisk together the dry ingredients in one bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the wet ingredients and whisk until smooth.
  4. Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Transfer the batter to a piping bag and fill the donut pan about ¾ full.
  6. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes until the tops spring back when pressed.
  7. Let the donuts cool slightly before turning them out onto a cooling rack.
  8. Dip each donut in melted butter, then coat in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
