Homemade Applesauce

Ingredients

The apples

  • 1 ½ pounds Gala apples
  • 1 ½ pounds Granny Smith apples

The other ingredients

  • cup water
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and chop the apples into 2-inch chunks.
  2. In a pot, combine the apple chunks, water, maple syrup, and cinnamon. Cover and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  3. Simmer until the apples are tender, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and mash for chunky applesauce or blend for smooth applesauce.
  5. Stir in the vinegar and adjust sweetness or spice to taste.
  6. Serve warm or chilled, and store leftovers in the fridge.
