Ingredients

The bread

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon aluminum-free baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup prepared eggnog
  • 1 tablespoon rum or brandy or bourbon

The glaze

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • tablespoons rum or brandy or bourbon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare an 8x4-inch loaf pan.
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar, then beat in the eggs and vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients, eggnog, and rum alternately to the wet mixture.
  5. Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan.
  6. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
  8. Mix the glaze ingredients and drizzle over the loaf once cooled.
